In a surprising move the pope declared the late Popes Pius XII and John Paul II as “venerable.” Next step is “beatification” and then “canonization.”

Canonization is a process in which a person is declared a Saint. A Saint is one who is in heaven with God and can be prayed to for various reasons. Before the Canonization process, there are two prior processes named Venerable and Beatification. Venerable process means a person has led a heroic life.

Beatification process means a miracle has been attributed to the person. Canonization process requires proof of at least one additional miracle.
